Lyn Baerfuss studied Voice and Piano at the Salisbury Teachers’ Training College in England. A transfer to the Royal College of Music was planned, but romance arrived in the form of a handsome Swiss Chef and thus marriage and motherhood took precedence for a while. However, she gained valuable professional level choral experience during three years with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta Chorus, and on arrival in Switzerland, Mrs Baerfuss sang for 18 years with other soloists in the Swiss Radio and Television Choeur Pro Arte in Lausanne and Geneva, working solely with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, with world renowned conductors and soloists. This included regular live radio and television appearances and cd recordings.

Having completed the Singing Examinations of the British Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, she also obtained those of the Societé Suisse de Pédagogie Musicale. She has been a regular soloist of the classical genre in Vaud, and specialises in duet and quartet ensembles. Mrs Baerfuss was a founder member of the Gamalyti Singers, performing music from the 12th to the 20th centuries in Switzerland. During the above period, Mrs Baerfuss studied with Elsa Jacobi of Vienna, Muriel Pursey of Bournemouth, and Yvonne Perrin and Lise Rapin of Lausanne, Switzerland.

In 1996 Mrs Baerfuss became the Singing Teacher at St George’s School in Clarens, Switzerland, and also formed her own private singing practice. In the past 20 years over 580 of her students have been successful in the Grades I to VIII of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Examinations. She taught History of Music for several years and until June 2011 was the Choir Director & Conductor of the St George’s School Senior School and Chamber Choir. Mrs Baerfuss also prepares her students for the Theory Examinations of the ABRSM, London, and is assisted by Mrs Claire Daglish of La Tour-de-Peilz, who specializes in preparing students for the Grade 5 Theory Examination, which enables singers to progress to the Grades 6-8 Singing Examinations. She also coaches students for the Grades 7 & 8 Aurals Section of those singing examinations. Details on request.

Mrs Baerfuss has also been an Elocution and Public Speaking teacher for many years, helping students to prepare for auditions and readings at their school events. She speaks French fluently and is a member of the British Association of Teachers of Singing (AOTOS) and the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).

The Cavatina Vocal School in Switzerland was an official Examination Centre of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London with a visiting examiner from England each May or June. This allowed the students to take their exams in familiar surroundings, which benefited their confidence and results.

However, Mrs Baerfuss has now moved to Javea, Spain, where she continues to give lessons to local English-speaking students in her home in El Rafalet. Details on request.
